Homo sapiens (once known as “Man,” but today “Human” sounds better because it is does not indicate sex (which we now call “gender” because it sounds less offensive than sex)) is surely the most narcissistic creature inhabiting the planet, if not the Universe.
You might recall that Narcissus drowned
in a pool of water while admiring his reflected image. Today we seek and/or
create our image daily, in mirrors, photographs, and in Facebook.
Topping all that, and topping whatever else might possibly happen before our extinction, we have created God in our image by writing that God created Man in his … Ingenious!
As for the rest of creation (excepting our personal pets, and the wild animals we almost never see because they are wild), we have but the slightest regard. Not human, not worth our gaze. Man has eyes but for himself.

| A gnat swarm, called a 'lek' by biologists |
A case in point: Do you love seeing gnats?
Ha! I knew you did not!
Now I have to admit that individual
gnats are not attractive to my manly
(or human) sensibilities. But how beautiful is a gnat swarm? If you only knew!
Male gnats swarm in the sunlight because
it makes them more visible to females, who then join the swarm to mate! No dim
pickup bars, internet dating sites, pornography, or loneliness – these are
human afflictions ... Gnats are open and bold!
Can
you imagine
the
erotic pitch!
A
gyrating whorl of thousands upon thousands,
Countless
healthy young flying naked bodies,
Shimmering
golden in the sun,
Blazing
with lust,
Rapturous
Ecstasy!
