How It Works
Whatever you bring
gets thrown in the mix, any musical era or genre… or some events might focus
more narrowly, like blues and folk, early psychedelia, old-time country, etc,
depending on the host.
Some or all plays might
follow or be preceded by short discussion: why was it chosen, what special meaning
does it have for you, how did it affect others, etc.
“Potluck” refers to
the mix of music guests bring, and depending on the host’s preferences, guests
might bring a potluck dish or snacks and beverages as well.
A variation might
be for the host to provide most or all the music.

The photo was taken in
Garrett Indiana, 1959 or 1960. The Gala Theater’s marquis still stands as a nostalgic
reminder of those lost days, and just beyond the theater you see Shafer’s CafĂ©,
a notorious teen hangout with a juke box that scandalized some of the town’s more
conservative adults. If you look
close you will see the “Have a Pepsi” sign and the iconic bottle cap above the
door, and if you are old enough you will be able to hear the music and smell and taste that Pepsi right
now… and it will make you younger for at least an hour.
